    Best Wishes
As my family celebrates the greatest gift of all, we pray for all our friends to find joy and peace in their gatherings and celebrations.

Please continue to keep us in your prayers, and if you can, please think of two teens that are very close to us and are struggling at this time.

    Love you all.

computer is dead, but I'm still kicking
If you've tried to get in touch with me and been unsuccessful, you're not alone. I loaded AOL onto my old Dell on Sunday and it promptly crashed big for the last time on Monday. The Geeks are trying to recover the hard drive (yes, I was sitting around on Saturday saying I should get me one of them hard drives and back this puppy up). I probably won't be up again for at least a week. So if anything big happens, please give me a call. Other than that... well, no sense in complaining. Best wishes!

    5:35 am
    Small Changes
I'm back to my "5:35" (my clock is set 25 minutes fast because I can't accept getting up earlier than 5:30) wake up time. However, my new hair do and a few changes to the morning schedule afford me time to shower in the am instead of pm, so I feel more alive. The new schedule at work is good, though I'm still working on learning names and determining who really belongs. A few new faces in the faculty, but the usual headaches don't change. I have one low level freshman class, two teachers I work with have 8 sections between them and they are already coming to me to write the quarterly plan and lesson plans for them! And I'm the only one with 2 other curriculum to teach as well!! Friday my old fuel guzzling vehicle finally stranded me for the last time. After having to drive me in (he was already scheduled for work from home due to an orthodontist appt.) then getting a flat tire on his way to pick me up = forcing me to get the train to get home in time for my daughter's back to school pool party with a few friend's and families = for which I needed to do a few things like clean the pool === Hubby was glad to take me car shopping yesterday. After several debates between replacing with the same style van vs. changing to a 5 passanger "commuter" car, the Pontiac Vibe won. It is ENOUGH. Not at all flashy or sporty to draw attention at work, some options to be comfortable, the moon roof debate was probably the longest of the day and it lost to the practicallity of keep it simple. Seating is adequate and back end is pleanty large for the dog or camping equipment. It all came down to what do I really use the car for 90% of the time. I know I'll miss road trips with friends and their families, but I won't miss the small mortgage payment every time I go to the gas station. And the price left us a good balance in the next new car (or emergency trip to CA or whatever)fund. Everything else is still unchanged (I'm still a nervous wreck). I am on the BIL and SIL S@$%list for agreeing with MIL that BIL, who has spent weeks in hospitals and been near death several times this summer (and is at least A YEAR or two away from full recovery) does not NEED to go to the State Fair with SIL and princess Arura, especially since he has not had a job in over a year and SIL was fired soon after Christmas and "can't possibly return to work when BIL is not strong enough to care for Princess Aurora (who is finally in much needed pre-school program)alone"!! I am certain that MIL is paying the tuition, rent and utilities. Welfare only goes so far.. That's all the news so far. Still waiting for what tomorrow brings.

    Back to "Normal"
Tomorrow, I return to my "normal" life.
Even with the continuing family crisises, it has been a wonderful (though not very relaxing) summer. We had a fabulous vacation in Orlando and visited Washington DC and Philadelphia for some siteseeing as well. The "little ones" and I spent a few days camping and took a few day trips to the beach. My favorite trips were our bike tours across town to the local park for picnics and fishing. It is great to see them enjoy nature, family and their growing independence. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

    New beginnings
It is finally here! Summer! I started the week with no list, no plan! I felt so lost.
So I broke with tradition and started with a field trip - to LI!! I burried my feet in the familiar sands with friend and family and felt the waves and listened to the gulls. And ate PB&J - ahh.
tues and wed were getting into the swing days - some reading, some swim, C and K made peanut butter cookie words while I starting up and cleaning out the "new" computer - for school - donated by my dear friend! A trip to the library and chess club.
Today was a bit more comfortable. A day for errands -- exploded pen in dryer necessitated a run to the outlets for a few replacement summer clothes for K. Some time to just relax. I picked 1.5 pints of blueberries and lost the dog again in half an hour (now I know why blueberries are so expensive!)then cleaned a little while the family was at practice. Now what to do with them? Well, the dog needs to learn how to get back over the fence. Until then, constant monitoring. Maybe some jam tomorrow and pancakes!
I'm starting to organize and clean and get some lists.
Back to the lists.. and some reading, then some much needed rest.
I hope this finds you enjoying.

    High Maintenance
I had a great weekend visited by friends. They were all perfect guests, though they did not eat enough and I have been getting fat instead of loosing the winter pounds. The only problem is the dog. She is now completely spoiled. She now requires constant petting. When not petted, she finds things to destroy. Last week she was chewing the business end of a disposable razor -- that was fun to get away from her. This week it was a book I had left out -- A big NO in this house. She is driving me crazy! Friends spoiled the last dog, now they got to this one too!! Wait 'til they return!!

Please take a moment to visit this lifetime TV site and sign a petition to eliminate drive-by (outpatient) mastectomies. The bill is to require health insurance to pay for up to 48 hours of hospital care post op.

not so good and pretty bad
    Just an overall blah post.

On the sort of good side: Car is improved, but still reading hot, could be associated with the board failure that still needs to be fixed.

On the pretty bad side: BIL is still in ICU. Surgery removed a lot of infection, but he still needs the ventilator. He is now coherent and very upset. His father was on a ventilator in ICU for over a month before he died and Gene was always upset by the machine, now being there himself, I don't think I would feel very optomistic if it were me. Please continue to send him your prayers and healing thoughts. He especially needs comfort and strength to know he will get through this. As you know, hubby is not terribly close to his brother, but we will rest easier when he is well. Thank you all!!

    3 minute post
Ah. I have 3 minutes before my day needs to start. I rested all day yesterday and I'm feeling a lot better. No worries. No work what so ever. I am looking forward to a busy week of cleaning the house and projects I enjoy.

funny: One of my 2nd block cuties (Msr.O) ran into the room Friday and Said "Who's That!" in such a way that everyone laughed sooo hard when I turned around and he realized it was JUST me and I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt (life's a coaster- Ride it! The Pheonix at Koenobles) with my hair braided and clipped up.

Good: C and K jumping and screaming at the TV yesterday as we watched some coverage of worlds. Good lessons there. (We still love you Ian!)

Now for my favorite week of the year!! Enjoy and have fun everyone!!

I got this from my sister and it made me smile. I hope you enjoy.

if you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced
enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.(Hardly seems worth it.)
If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.(Now that's more like it!)
The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.(O.M.G.!)
A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes. (In my next life, I want to be a pig.) Who should have mentioned that sooner???
A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves todeath. (Creepy.)
(I'm still not over the pig.)
Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour (Don't try this at home, maybe at work)-- notice that is small c calories not capital C calories.
The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.(Honey, I'm home. What the...?!)
The flea can jump 350 times its body length. It's like a human jumping the length of a football field (30 minutes..lucky pig! Can you imagine?)
The catfish has over 27,000 taste buds.(What could be so tasty on the bottom of a pond?)
Some lions mate over 50 times a day.(I still want to be a pig in my next life...quality over quantity...Well, let me get back to you on that) Need more data. Any volunteers?
Butterflies taste with their feet.(Something I always wanted to know.)
The strongest muscle in the body is the tongue. ( Hmmmmmm......)
Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people.
(If you're ambidextrous, do you splitt the difference?)
Elephants are the only animals that cannot jump.(Okay, so that would be a good thing)
A cat's urine glows under a black light.(I wonder who was paid to figure that out?)-- I think all kinds do. As well as blood.
An ostrich's eye is bigger than its brain.(I know some people like that.)
Starfish have no brains(I know some people like that too.)
Polar bears are left-handed.(If they switch, they'll live a lot longer)
Humans and dolphins are the only species that have sex for pleasure.(What about that pig??)

Is is Friday yet and can I open the pool?
Work continues to be a whirlwind of activity. The stress of state inspections and state testing was tough for me last week and the previous. I lost 4 days with my 1st and 2nd block students!! I feel so bad for the ones who are frustrated-- and all the other issues...(can't thing about that now-- too close to home). By Friday 2nd and 3rd with be back in synch. finally!!!
Yesterday was full -- 2nd block flowed into lunch because that is the only time a few of them can get help, then 3rd had a few stragglers also then the committee meeting then 8 kids for help after school, with help from JC, who was hanging around for no known reason. Home, dinner, swim board meeting, learn the website, grade until almost 2am. Today - 3 different labs for 1st block, one for 2nd and a different one for 3rd!! Photocopied for the next topic in CP , almost forgot to put grades in. 4 more students stayed today. Now I still have a ton to catch up on. didn't file.

zzzzz... better get to work so I can have a little quiet time tonight!

    smiles
My second block class was almost SRO today with a nearly all students present and my scheduled formal observation from my supervisor, then my pHD "Helper" came in unexpectedly and the state auditor decided to joined us also!

Of course, I had lots of balls for everyone to play with so all went well. My students also know that I am more than happy to reward good performance and they were at their best! Lots of smiles!

I have no idea what the observation will look like though, since the district will probably have to cut several teachers this year to make the budget and that usually means they need some "justification". I saw one colleague's report and it was not very good. I don't expect anything other than a mediocre report since they know I am a flight risk and a great review is fuel for a chance at a matching salary elsewhere. My colleague is in double trouble since the door is open to boot her and she does not have something good to bring to the new school.

I did hear from my "mentor"/colleague (and also my supervisor) that the state inspector was impressed with us and wanted copies of both our plans to use as examples.
This helps me since it means that my supervisor cannot "create" any non-compliance areas, as some supervisors have been known to do and may be pressured to do given the present environment. Her position is almost definitely gone, but she is well qualified for a VP position, so it is a matter of doing what she "should" and getting a little positive recognition. This (history/football major) principal seems to think I'm bright (probably because I'm not good looking), so I'm pretty sure I'm safe.

How can I still be tired?
I got a full night sleep friday-saturday (1-5:30) then got a little more nap time in the morning before and after Hubby's breakfast in bed then I fell asleep on the couch for at least 2 hours and I still slept from 1:30-5 "last night" and I'm still tired! It must be the global warming. You know we're all going to die in 5 years (according to my students)- so why bother.

GRRRR... I started this at 6:50 am and after several interruptions had it nearly finished at 7:20 then--- I touched a wrong key. I don't even know what I did, but it all went BLANK! GONE!! In the past, when this has happened, I was able to get back on and I got prompted to use the back-up, but I've tried and tried and it just is not coming up. I wait -- perhaps an auto back-up will prompt the regergitation.....

    Pre-Christmas Stress
As I start typing, I realize there is another item to add to the A list for today. I don't even have time to write about it all, but I just wanted to wish everyone a great season. I know we're all stressed, but it helps to rest for a second and appreciate that someone is celebrating something nearly every day for the next couple weeks!

Happy Hanuka, Wonderful Winter Solstice, Joyful Yule, Blessed Christmas, Uplifting Kwanza and a Happy New Year !!

I look forward to seeing some of you soon!! If not, safe travels and happy times!

    You're in my prayers!

Thanks for helping me get through another year!

    Thanks!
Thanks to all you vets out there and the wonderful families who love and support them!

That said, I have so much more to be thankful for. This week I only had 2 days of classes, which were particularly light since we are preparing for midterms this coming week. I almost forgot what work is. Tuesday, I was off for Election Day and really needed it to get some fall cleaning done in the house and catch up on chores eignored last weekend due to the 2 day A/BB/C level swim meet that our team hosted. Thursday we flew to Tampa for a quick close out to our rollercoastering season. We all had a lot of fun and the parks were beautiful! Bush is offering free admissions to all active duty military families and 2 samples to everyone at the hospitality house!!! We met the Orlando rep. for ACE in the parking lot at Cypress Gardens and he introduced us to the president - a NJ native!! Cool! We had a busy and very fun 2 days - 2 parks, lots of rides, great shows and of course the animals and garden tours! The water ski show made me cry remembering seeing it with my parents 35 years ago and them talking about seeing it when they were little. My children promise to bring their families some day. It was a great get away. I'm glad we did not try to do LA. We returned this am on a very early flight, so I have another day to recover before a full week of work and 2 meets (in 2 different states!)next weekend! I should start thinking about Christmas.

    Thanks!

I hugged my kids extra hard tonight. The way things look, they'll be off to Iraq or Iran in 10 years to finish this mess if they don't get killed by terrorists before then. Sleep tight and thanks for all the fish...

    Happy Holidays!
Best wishes to all who are or have celebrated this week.

A new season begins (yeah, this really should be the mark of the new year)a new to-do list is written.

    today: close pool
tomorrow: clean basement -- must make space for the bar to be hauled in from the deck. Still deciding to finish or not to finish basement. pros and cons are fairly even. presently, cons are ahead by several $$ and some security factors. Result may be improved basement without major work and a few luxuries or changes to family room.

Oh yeah, and plan RE, school lessons and publish grade sheets! My school promised printer -- been asking for 6 years!!! still has not arrived.
